mxdwn PREMIERE: Morcheeba Shares New FaltyDL Remix of “Set Your Sails”

Morcheeba are releasing a deluxe edition of their album Blaze Away on May 31, featuring remixes of each song of the album by artists like Lindstrom, Yimino, Gilligan Moss and more. Today we’re premiering the last release before the deluxe album comes out, a remix of “Set Your Sails” by New York City-based producer FaltyDL.

Blaze Away was originally released in 2018 as the duo’s ninth studio album and first since 2013’s Head Up High. Original band members Skye Edwards and Ross Godfrey created the album. Despite the years-long wait between albums and the departure of co-founder Paul Godfrey (Ross’s brother), Morcheeba still retains its trademark downtempo sound on Blaze Away.

“FaltyDL has done a wonderfully glitchy feel good mix of our song ‘Set Your Sails,’ dropping it into exotic new territory,” said the band about the Remix.

What makes the deluxe edition of the album so special is the ability to hear the band’s music through the stylistic lenses of a variety of DJs. The original version of “Set Your Sails” has a little bit of pep to it, hitting some uptempo strides during Edwards’ perfectly-delivered vocals. FaltyDL increases the BPMs and the aggression, focusing on a particular selection that features distorted electric guitar, a welcome counterpoint to the smooth vocals. With a new producer at the helm, “Set Your Sails” takes on an entirely new character.
