Pixx’s New Video for “Andean Condor” is a Tongue-In-Cheek Critique of the Patriarchy

Pixx, also recognized as Hannah Rodgers, released her third single “Andean Condor” from her upcoming album Small Mercies which comes out June 7. The song touches on gender politics while including a tongue-in-cheek album opener saying- “mature males tend to be at the top of the pecking order.” The visuals for “Andean Condor” were masterminded by Alice Clingan and it premiered today by The FADER.

About the song Rodgers says, “This song is written about the link between wo/mankind and nature. It is important to recognize how many times women have to face the absurdity of male hierarchy in our modern world. Having had endless conversations with (certain) men who justify the inequality of the sexes by comparing themselves to animals, I thought what better way to help them than to remind those men that they are supposed to be human, with emotional capability and growth.”

The new album by Pixx, Small Mercies, consists of songs like “Bitch” and “Disgrace,” both of which that came out before “Andean Condor.” Small Mercies looks at love through a series of poetic examinations, from the micro of self-love to the macro of devotional love for this planet, all set to a soundtrack that mixes electronic pop and grungy guitar rock. The 23-year-old Rodgers has one previous album out called The Age Of Anxiety, which came out in 2017. The album explores the depths of synth-pop fueled by Rodger’s experiences of angst.
