Tobias Forge Announces Details of New Darker Ghost Album and New Ghost Movie

Although Ghost’s upcoming studio album will not be released until 2020, frontman Tobias Forge has released new details about the upcoming musical project. In addition to the upcoming album, Forge has announced new details regarding an upcoming film about the band

“Most films about bands are biographical, and I see no reason to tell our story yet. It’s a little bit like premature ejaculation,” Forge explains. “You have to have a career first and then you can tell the real story, so that was never an option. And when you yank away that, what do you have? Well, that would be a fictional story.”

Although Forge would like to work on the film, he also explains that he understands that he has time constraints due to his work with the band and family responsibilities. This will likely delay the film for some time.

“The cog wheels are turning on that one. We’re just trying to figure out a lot of the practicalities. Making a film is a big endeavor. Another problem that I have had over the course of my career is that I don’t have a shit-ton of time. I am also a father of two kids and I’m married,” Forge explained. “I try to not to break my back. I’ve been so close so many times to overworking and I said yes to everything just because I was so keen on not losing momentum. I’ve learned over the years that it’s really important not to do everything at once.”

The band’s last album Prequelle, saw  unprecedented success for the band including a Grammy award this year. This proved to be a positive moment for Forge, which originated in Sweden in 2006

“It’s a great honor — very, very joyous,” says Forge, in an interview with Billboard. “You’d think that anyone who experienced being nominated and winning one maybe wouldn’t care so much about getting another one, but I can really vouch that is not the case. I have felt tremendously overjoyed with the first nomination and then it completely blew my mind when I won it last time. And now when I got nominated again, it definitely feels like tremendous.”

Despite Prequelle’s success, Forge explains that he hopes this new project will signify a new direction for the band.  He anticipates it to be heavier and darker than the band’s previous output.

““I want to make a different record from Prequelle,” Forge states. “I want it to feel different. If I dare to say heavier, people think that it’s going to be Mercyful Fate all the way … but I definitely have a darker, heavier record in mind.”

Although Forge is seeking a new direction, he explained that the Cardinal Copia character will likely make a return in the new album:

“I got to spend a few years, at least, working undercover, having the luxury of being somewhat anonymous, or masked. I’ve definitely felt the joy of being able to go in and out of being a celebrity, which I do like a lot. Sometimes you get reminded that you cannot escape from it; That’s the sort of thing I have to quickly sort of get used to, but I am not in any way saying it’s painful or anything. It’s not.”
