Gov Ball After Dark: Kaytranada @ Villain 6/1

Get ready to jam, and jam hard: DJ, producer, and all-around groovy-as-hell artist Kaytranada will headline his own show at Brooklyn’s Villain on June 1st. This set is part of the Governor’s Ball Festival’s ‘Gov Ball After Dark’ series, which showcases the wide scope of independent artists featured on the main festival lineup in a deeper, more intimate context. For this show, Villain’s doors will open at 7:00pm and first sounds will begin at 8:00pm. Tickets will cost you $50 each for General Admission.

Originally hailing from Port-at-Prince, Haiti, Kaytranada (born Louis Kelvin Celestin) grew up in Montreal, Canada and began to DJ when he was just 14 years old. When he grew older, he began creating music through and launched his career under his current stage name. Since his fairly humble beginnings, he’s gone on to tour with Madonna during her “Rebel Heart” tour and sign an exclusive record deal with notable indie label XL Recordings.

His debut release on XL, 99.9%, received extensive critical acclaim, including being awarded the Polaris Music Prize in 2016. 99.9% featured collaborations from several huge players in hip-hop as well, including Anderson .Paak, Syd the Kid, and Vic Mensa. Prior to his first full-length, he released nearly 20 other projects varying from EPs to mixtapes and everything in between.

Whether you know him or not, Kaytranada is no stranger to the hip-hop game – and he’s got the producing and lyrical chops to show it.

Melissa Aiello: Hi there, nice to meet you! My name is Melissa and I am a 24-year-old passionate lover of all things related to music and live entertainment. I've been singing since the second grade, and playing guitar for the past five years. I grew up in a fairly musical household, with my grandfather breaking out his accordion and starting sing-a-longs at every family gathering. It was here that I began falling in love with music and its power to change moods, emotions, and lives. My taste in music goes far and wide - you name it, I'll (probably) listen to it. My hundreds of Spotify playlists include everything from Biggie to ABBA to the Jonas Brothers (thank GOD they're back together) to Dolly Parton and everything in-between. I aim for my little corner of the internet to spread love and positivity for all this beautiful music, and give you the opportunity to see or hear artists you may otherwise have not heard of.
