Gov Ball After Dark: Soccer Mommy & Pom Pom Squad @ Brooklyn Bazaar 6/1

The Governor’s Ball Music Festival plans to keep the music going into the late hours of the night, long after the sounds of the day have ceased. Several of the festival’s most exciting – and, frankly, underrated – artists have been tapped to perform their own headlining sets throughout Gov Ball weekend. These “After Dark” shows feature a variety of artists for any and all musical tastes.

On Saturday, June 1st, alt-rocker Sophie Allison – better known as Soccer Mommy – will take the stage at Brooklyn Bazaar for her very own After Dark set. Pom Pom Squad is slated to support, with doors open at 9:00pm and first sounds beginning at 10:00pm. This show is for all ages, and tickets are going for just $20 a pop for General Admission.

Although Allison began releasing music as Soccer Mommy back in 2015, she didn’t begin to take her music seriously until after she dropped out of college in 2017 to pursue her craft full-time. She currently has a record deal with indie label Fat Possum Records, where she released her first ‘official’ debut album, Clean in 2018 (despite her having previously released two full-length LPs in 2016 and 2017 respectively. Clean was met with wide praise, garnering stellar reviews from critics and topping many “Best Albums of 2018” lists at the end of the year.

Supporting Soccer Mommy on June 1 will be Pom Pom Squad, self-proclaimed makers of “sad girl music” based out of NYC. Their debut EP was released in 2018, and contains a similar raw, gritty edge that Soccer Mommy’s sound encompasses so well. If you wanna brush up before the show, Hate It Here is a good place to start.

Melissa Aiello: Hi there, nice to meet you! My name is Melissa and I am a 24-year-old passionate lover of all things related to music and live entertainment. I've been singing since the second grade, and playing guitar for the past five years. I grew up in a fairly musical household, with my grandfather breaking out his accordion and starting sing-a-longs at every family gathering. It was here that I began falling in love with music and its power to change moods, emotions, and lives. My taste in music goes far and wide - you name it, I'll (probably) listen to it. My hundreds of Spotify playlists include everything from Biggie to ABBA to the Jonas Brothers (thank GOD they're back together) to Dolly Parton and everything in-between. I aim for my little corner of the internet to spread love and positivity for all this beautiful music, and give you the opportunity to see or hear artists you may otherwise have not heard of.
