Slowthai Is The New Rightful Heir In New Video “Nothing Great About Britain”

Slowthai shared a new single called “Nothing Great About Britain” on his debut album Nothing Great About Britain to come out May 17 via Panther Records/Method Records. The song also came with an accompanying video.

“Nothing Great About Britain” embodies the highly anticipated debut album’s sentiment and the video captures slowthai’s spirit perfectly. Viewers see the young artist in a King Arthur like legend of Exaclibur as he extracts a hidden sword from stone and becomes the rightful heir to the throne. The video mocks and celebrates British stereotypes equally, concluding the the rapper declaring, “hand on my heart, I’m proud to be British” before leading a packed-out pub in singing Britain’s national anthem, “God Save The Queen.”

Slowthai is taking on a UK tour, 99p, which sold out within minutes of tickets going on sale. For the tour UK fans were allowed to pick whee they wanted to see him play and all tickets were sold for less than a pound. The artist will make his official I’ve debut in the States playing in Los Angeles at The Echo in addition to two shows at NYC’s Elsewhere this June.

The upcoming album Nothing Great About Britain recounts slowthai battling through social and financial diversity while grappling with the personal and political experiences of life in Britain. He recently spoke with The New York Times, addressing the current social and political issues in Britain and how it informs his music, stating that the core of what is holding his country back is that it’s collectively neglecting “communities and families.”
