Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon covered Bob Dylan’s “Angelina” during the 37d03d Festival––and no, I’m not sure how to say it, either. Last night was the first night of the festival and featured artists such as Boyz Noise and Big Read Machine, the name for collaboration between Vernon and The National’s Aaron Dessner. The festival is taking place in Brooklyn, though they have gone through a re-branding, as it was originally called PEOPLE festival and took place in Berlin. The performance comes following the announcement that Bon Iver’s annual festival, Eaux Claires, will not be taking place this year but will be back for 2020.
Justin Vernon not only covered “Angelina,” but he also led a cover band of Bob Dylan in other hits such as “All Along the Watchtower” and “Not Dark Yet.” Vernon’s distinct vocals and stage presence, accompanied by a beautiful acoustic-electic guitar carrying the melody, are a compelling tribute to the Nobel Prize winner and does great justice to the original songs.
The festival will be continuing today and will include more performances from last night’s artists.
