Instrumentalist and songwriter Bill Callahan has announced his next upcoming album. The project will be titled Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest and is set to be 20 songs long. This massive undertaking will be Callahan’s first major release since his 2014 remix album, Have Fun With God. The announcement was made this morning by his record label, Drag City, by way of a short Youtube video. The video revealed both the title of the album and its cover art, before stating that it will be released on June 14. A long time member of the music industry, fans of Callahan are eagerly awaiting the performer’s first new project in years.
Making music for most of his life, Callahan has created a large log of songs from over decades of work. Many of his early albums were not released under Callahan’s name, however, with the singer choosing to release music under the alias Smog for the 1990s and early 2000s. In 2007, Callahan broke away from his pseudonym and began releasing albums under his own name. The first of these was 2007’s Woke On A Whaleheart, and since then Callahan has put out 4 more full length albums.
Aside from his work on his music at home, Callahan has also planned a massive tour this summer. With dates ranging from June through October, the singer has an incredibly busy year planned for 2019. Fans should be sure to get their tickets as soon as they can. As far as Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest goes, the announcement video can be found linked below.
