Tool fans will finally get to hear new music on their upcoming tour which starts May 5 in Jacksonville, Florida. Another teaser of new music came from Maynard James Keenan in the form of a Twitter post with a thought bubble of him thinking, “Feeling cute. Might play some new material on this upcoming tour. idk”, and the other band members reacting with “Like Button,” “F*ckin’ A!,” and “innit.”
The responses on Twitter are hilarious with mostly memes in reaction to Maynard’s teaser. One meme is of the lady who survived the Titanic with the caption, “It’s Been 84 years…” and another meme of a wrestler on his walkie talkie, shouting, “It’s happening… it’s happening.” In either sense, fans are anxious and Keenan is building off the intensity of that.
Fans can check out show dates on Tool’s US Tour which starts on May 5 in Jacksonville, Florida then they make other stops across the southeast and mid-western states. They play shows in North Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Virginia and a few other stops. Tool then heads to Europe for more shows.
The anticipation for a new Tool album has been building for months. With even so much as a single tweet or comment from a band member, a maelstrom of news stories is generated about the anticipated release date of the follow up to 2016’s 10,000 Days. Keenan revealed updates to fans on where they are at with their recording, including updates on vocals and mixing for the new album.
Tool includes Keenan, Danny Carey, Adam Jones, and Justin Chancellor. Tool has won three Grammy’s over the course of their career and have put off several chart-topping albums including Ænima, Lateralus, and 10,000 Days. The rock icons recently shared a picture on their Facebook of the band’s members at Gateway Mastering Studios in Portland, Maine. The photo includes Bob Ludwig, who also mastered Tool’s previous record, 10,000 Days, which received wide-acclaim across the globe.
Fans of Tool still listen to their music through CD’s. Tool’s legendary catalog is not available on any major streaming platform. In a Bloomberg Report provided by The PRP, “the band’s camp had been having meetings with Spotify and Apple Music to potentially get their songs out via the now-dominant form of music consumption.” Frontman Maynard James Kennan recently replied to a fan’s tweet voicing his concern to add their music to streaming services, even suggesting the band make their own app providing their music. Kennan replied suggesting that he is not the one to blame for their music not being available.
