Gov Ball After Dark: Calpurnia @ Irving Plaza 5/30

As part of the Governor’s Ball Music Festival “Gov Ball After Dark” series, bright indie rock band Calpurnia will be headlining at Irving Plaza on Thursday, May 30th. Doors to this event will open at 7:00pm, with first sounds beginning at 8:00pm. This performance is for all ages, with General Admission Floor tickets going for $25 each and General Admission Balcony spots at $60 apiece.

Calpurnia’s recent spark in hype has mostly been sparked from its frontman – actor and notable Stranger Things and IT lead Finn Wolfard. Formed in Vancouver, Canada, the group began recording and releasing music together in 2017 and was soon signed to independent record label Royal Mountain Records. The group released their first EP Scout in March of 2018, and have followed up with their most recent single “Cell” in March of this year.

Reception of Calpurnia has certainly been positive – which makes sense, considering the group’s infectious and extremely catchy tunes. Calpurnia has certainly put their best foot forward with their debut release, definitively setting themselves apart from other indie-rock players with a similar sound. Instead of opting for a darker, more grunge-y approach as their counterparts have, Calpurnia opts for a brighter outlook.

If you want to catch Calpurnia in their element (and outside of the buzz of Randall’s Island), be sure to check out this show. It’ll certainly start your Governor’s Ball Festival weekend off right.

Melissa Aiello: Hi there, nice to meet you! My name is Melissa and I am a 24-year-old passionate lover of all things related to music and live entertainment. I've been singing since the second grade, and playing guitar for the past five years. I grew up in a fairly musical household, with my grandfather breaking out his accordion and starting sing-a-longs at every family gathering. It was here that I began falling in love with music and its power to change moods, emotions, and lives. My taste in music goes far and wide - you name it, I'll (probably) listen to it. My hundreds of Spotify playlists include everything from Biggie to ABBA to the Jonas Brothers (thank GOD they're back together) to Dolly Parton and everything in-between. I aim for my little corner of the internet to spread love and positivity for all this beautiful music, and give you the opportunity to see or hear artists you may otherwise have not heard of.
