John Bush and Charlie Benante Reunite in San Francisco to Play Anthrax’s “Room For One More”

Thrash metal band Anthrax’s ex-lead singer, John Bush, and ex-drummer, Charlie Benante, have reunited this past Sunday, April 20, at The Fillmore in San Francisco. The two came together to play their old band’s songs, “Room For One More” and “Only.” While Benante was a member of Anthrax throughout the band’s run from 1981 to 2016, Bush only performed with them from 1992 to 2005 and again from 2009 to 2010. Anthrax’s original singer, Joey Belladonna, has been in and out of the group, as he has been pursuing a solo career under the name Belladonna. Though Charlie Benante was not originally with Anthrax, he sang on some of the band’s most popular albums, such as Sound of White Noise, on which “Room For One More” and “Only” appear.

However, Bush has not been known to be on the best terms with the other members of the band. In an interview with 69 Faces of Rock last year, Bush revealed that he was only still in contact with the band’s guitarist, Scott Ian, though even Ian seems closer with the other members. When Belladonna rejoined Anthrax in 2010, Ian commented that: “The band dynamic is an interesting one – in Anthrax, Joey and I spent so many years of our lives together, we grew up together, we know each other so well, so it was like no time was lost,” not reflecting on Bush’s leave.

By whatever means it may have taken to reunite Benante and Bush, Anthrax’s fans were all excited to hear their amazing performance at the Fillmore.
