Punk rock band Hot Snakes is back on tour during Summer 2019 for eight shows. The tour has begun this weekend in Texas and will continue across the east coast until May 4. Hot Snakes began their run from 1995 to 2005 and has been back together since 2011. The band recently signed with Sub Pop Records and released Jericho Sirens, their first album in fourteen years. After the release of this album and its premiere at The Bell House in Brooklyn, Hot Snakes went on tour during November 2018.
Like any good post-hardcore band, Hot Snakes has never been a consistent name. Leading members Rick Froberg and John Reis performed together in Pitchfork from 1986 to 1990, and Drive Like Jehu from 1990 to 1995, before Hot Snakes was formed. The two have continued touring with Drive Like Jehu on and off for reunion concerts during Hot Snakes’ hiatus. Reis has also continued working with the band Rocket from the Crypt on guitar and lead vocals intermittently from 1990 to 2005, 2011, and again since 2013.
Despite Hot Snakes’ sporadic separations, after signing with Sup Pop Records, the band seems to be fully committed once again and is, as one review from The Guardian states, “The very definition of kick ass.”
