Serj Tankian Covers Blue Öyster Cult’s “Godzilla” with Gene Hoglan and Brendon Small for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters Soundtrack Album

Systems of a Down frontman Serj Tankian has taken a shot at covering Blue Öyster Cult’s classic hard-rock track, “Godzilla.” This cover track by Tankian will appear on the upcoming soundtrack album for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, set for a release on May 24th, according to BlabberMouth.

The cover track features assistance from members of Dethklok, from the show Metalocalypse, including Brendon Small and heavy-metal drummer Gene Hoglan. The song covers a whole range of vocals, from a powerful vibrato by Tankian that compliments a full orchestra, to the drumming of a Japanese taiko group and a chorus of men chanting throughout the piece.

Soundtrack composer Bear McCreary has been a well-known name in the scene, having orchestrated the music for The Walking Dead. McCreary told Rolling Stone that the song is “ “perhaps the most audacious piece of music I have ever produced, jammed to the breaking point with orchestra, choir, taiko chanting, taiko drumming, heavy metal rhythm section, Gene Hoglan’s blistering double-kick drums, and Serj’s distinct vocals. It is complete musical madness.”

I want to take my writing and report on stories within the LGBTQ+ and Latinx community. In terms of music, play me a smooth jazz tune, an upbeat pop song, or an unheard indie artist and I'm sure I'll become infatuated by the music. I am always here to share someone else's story, to uplift a voice in any community.
