Bikini Kill Comes Together in Los Angeles For First Show In 22 Years

The legendary punk girl group, Bikini Kill came together to perform at Los Angeles’s Hollywood Palladium for the first time in 22 years. Around 5,000 fans young and old showed up selling out for their powerful performance. The band did not only sell out one night but four in Hollywood. The audience was full of women who looked up to the band as a source of inspiration and power. The reunion performance proved that riot grrrl and punk rock are still thriving genres. The show opened with their hit, “Carnival” and the energy did not dissapate from start to finish.

Most original members from Bikini Kill rocked the show including Kathleen Hanna, Tobi Vail, and Kathi Wilcox.  Erica Dawn Lyle also joined them as the bassist instead of Billy Karren. Kathleen Hanna, the lead singer, and the band had undeniable energy that made fans fall in love with them all over again. Tobi Vail the drummer of the band stated, “We were trying to get other women to start bands”. Their performance was legendary and an inspiration to every artist and woman across the globe.

Rolling Stone speculates about the reincarnation of the powerful punk girl group, “Perhaps it was thawed by global warming, or even by Hanna’s recent-ish move to Los Angeles. Or more likely, Bikini Kill was summoned back to life by the boiling heat of today’s political moment. We need their fighting words in these grim times”. In a time of political unrest and women’s rights being threatened Bikini Kill’s come back showed the strength and power that women have. “Girls to the front”, the punk groups mantra is said to protect their fans and join them in unity.
