Gov Ball After Dark: Amber Mark @ Public Arts 5/30

The Governor’s Ball does it yet again with another excellent After Dark choice: indie R&B newcomer Amber Mark will perform a show at NYC’s Public Arts on Thursday, May 30th. Doors for this show will open at 7:30pm, with first sounds beginning an hour later at 8:30pm. Currently, General Admission tickets are going for $25 each, and this event is only for those aged 21 and up.

Although she currently resides in New York, Mark has spent most of her life traveling all over the world, calling several different states and countries home – including Miami, Tennessee, India, and Germany to name a few. This amalgamation of cultures has had great influence on her music and songwriting, as noted in her various shifts in musical tone on her several EP releases. She takes pride in drawing from these rich cultures and weaving her own personal stories into them, allowing her music to take on a complete life of its own – which is rarely seen in most of today’s music. The soul is so palpable you could cut it with a butter knife.

Much of Amber Mark’s music has been met with critical acclaim. Pitchfork dubbed her song “Love Me Right” as a Best New Track after its release, while iconic radio host Zane Lowe premiered one of her first singles “Way Back” on his BBC1 radio show.

Whether you know her or not, trust me – you’ll want to see this show. Grab your ticket as soon as you can!

Melissa Aiello: Hi there, nice to meet you! My name is Melissa and I am a 24-year-old passionate lover of all things related to music and live entertainment. I've been singing since the second grade, and playing guitar for the past five years. I grew up in a fairly musical household, with my grandfather breaking out his accordion and starting sing-a-longs at every family gathering. It was here that I began falling in love with music and its power to change moods, emotions, and lives. My taste in music goes far and wide - you name it, I'll (probably) listen to it. My hundreds of Spotify playlists include everything from Biggie to ABBA to the Jonas Brothers (thank GOD they're back together) to Dolly Parton and everything in-between. I aim for my little corner of the internet to spread love and positivity for all this beautiful music, and give you the opportunity to see or hear artists you may otherwise have not heard of.
