Gov Ball After Dark: Hippo Campus @ Warsaw 5/ 30

Music festival season is officially upon us in New York City, and arguably the city’s largest festival is coming up quickly. The Governor’s Ball festival is set to take place from May 31-June 2nd at Randall’s Island, and has quite the lineup of performers. In addition to the already huge festival lineup, Governor’s Ball is hosting a series of smaller shows held in intricate NYC venues throughout the festival weekend. Dubbed ‘Gov Ball After Dark,’ these shows help to highlight indie performers on the packed festival lineup, so fans can experience their music in a more personal fashion.

Leading the charge for this series are alt-rock aficionados Hippo Campus; they’ll be headlining their very own show at Warsaw in Brooklyn on Thursday, May 30th. Doors open in the evening at 8:00pm, with first sounds happening at 9:00pm. Tickets are going for $26 apiece for General Admission, and the show is available for all ages.

Hailing from St. Paul, Minnesota, Hippo Campus has made waves since their introduction to the indie rock scene in 2013. Before Governor’s Ball, they’ve been on quite a few other festival lineups – including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, South by Southwest, and Summerfest. Hippo Campus’s vibe is true to the indie rock aesthetic, although their latest album proved to  stray a bit from their roots – where more electronic drums and digital processing effects were used. No need to be wary, though – these additions surely do not detract from their sound whatsoever.

Amidst the crowded lineup for Gov Ball, Hippo Campus might get lost in the mix – but do yourself a favor and see them, whether at this show or during the festival itself.

Melissa Aiello: Hi there, nice to meet you! My name is Melissa and I am a 24-year-old passionate lover of all things related to music and live entertainment. I've been singing since the second grade, and playing guitar for the past five years. I grew up in a fairly musical household, with my grandfather breaking out his accordion and starting sing-a-longs at every family gathering. It was here that I began falling in love with music and its power to change moods, emotions, and lives. My taste in music goes far and wide - you name it, I'll (probably) listen to it. My hundreds of Spotify playlists include everything from Biggie to ABBA to the Jonas Brothers (thank GOD they're back together) to Dolly Parton and everything in-between. I aim for my little corner of the internet to spread love and positivity for all this beautiful music, and give you the opportunity to see or hear artists you may otherwise have not heard of.
