Billie Eilish Release Video for “you should see me in a crown” Created by Famed Animator takashi Murakami

Billie Eilish, the indie-popstar taking mainstream music by storm, has just released her animated music video for “you should see me in a crown,” a legendary collaboration with Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami. The collaborative music video is now available for streaming on YouTube and VEVO.

The video begins with an animated version of Eilish dressed up in her well-known baggy, clothing attire, singing and dancing along to the song’s upbeat energy within a digitalized world. The clips feature well-known branding from both artists, from Eilish’s signature blohsh character graphic to Murakami’s signature flower icons. Eventually down the line, the animated Eilish finds herself in a dark, apocalyptic world being conquered over a spider-like antagonist.

Last month, Eilish released merchandise in collaboration with the famed Murakami and streetwear designer Don C after their animated video originally made its debut on Apple Music. This marked the first chapter of Apple Music releasing merchandise, according to V Magazine.

The two artists have always been mutual fans of each other’s work. Eilish and Murakami originally met in Japan while she was touring in 2018, soon after then, they began working on this remarkable piece of anime, incorporating special motion capture technology. “8 months from start to finish, I sprinted throughout the production process with my animation team striving to realize Billie’s vision in an unprecedented way,’ said Murakami in a press release about the process of creating this animated piece.

Eilish mentioned that “Murakami is an incredible visionary. It was such an honor to collaborate with him and have our brains and our worlds collide for this video,’ in the same press release.

Currently, Eilish has been making strides in the music industry after the successful release of her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? She became the first person born after 2000 to reach a #1 album, along with her critically-acclaimed album being the biggest debut of the decade in the U.S. and the second-biggest of 2019 for any album. Eilish can also be caught performing on the second weekend of Coachella on Saturday, April 20th.

I want to take my writing and report on stories within the LGBTQ+ and Latinx community. In terms of music, play me a smooth jazz tune, an upbeat pop song, or an unheard indie artist and I'm sure I'll become infatuated by the music. I am always here to share someone else's story, to uplift a voice in any community.
