The Australian garage-psych band with an unforgettable name, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, has announced their new album And Now For The Whatchamacallit and released a new song called “Bill’s Mandolin.” The record will be out May 31 and is being released by Marathon Records, known for putting out albums by artists like Courtney Barnett, Jen Cloher and Jagwar Ma.
The new song is a frenetic burst of garage-rock energy, punctuated by shredding guitar riffs and a pummeling rhythm section. Think more along the lines of another quirky-named Australian band – King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard than fellow Perth psych-pop band Pond. The riffs are more sinister and while there are plenty of hooks and melodic moments, even some group harmonizing, it’s not the focal point of “Mr. Mandolin.”
