mxdwn PREMIERE: Toebow Share Groovy New Psych-Pop Gem with “Bed in Breakfast”

Brooklyn band Toebow is a new group from Brooklyn that features members of BOBBY and their album Themes is out on May 24 via Imaginator Records. We’re thrilled to premiere the first single from that album, “Bed In Breakfast.”

The song features delicate, clean guitar riffs and a dynamic male/female vocal duet. The vibe is very laid back and lo-fi, not unlike early Mac Demarco recordings – especially when it gets to a groovy little guitar solo. As the song progresses it’s ambition increases, with soaring vocal performances and the funky guitar becoming more pronounced, the chords played with vigor.

The former members of BOBBY in Toebow include Martin Zimmermann and Maia Friedman. Zimmermann provided guitar, vocals, drum programming, drums and synthesizer while Friedman added synthesizer, vocals and organ. The other three members are Jo-Anne Hyun (bass, vocals and synthesizer), Nate Ulsh (guitar, vocals and synthsesizer) and Charlie Kessenich (drums, vocals, guitar, glockenspiel). Hyun recently contributed to Zula’s latest release, 2019’s Stepping EP.
