Sad Summer Festival: The Maine, Mayday Parade & More @ Pier 17 7/16

Move over Warped Tour, there’s a new show in town… and it features a few of your old friends. This year, a new day-long event called the Sad Summer Festival is traveling the country with some of the best alt-rock bands you’ll find today, including The Maine, Mayday Parade, State Champs, The Wonder Years and many others. The fest will stop by Pier 17 in New York City on Tuesday, July 16th, and feature supporting acts Mom Jeans, Just Friends, and Stand Atlantic. Tickets cost just $39.50 for General Admission and $75 for a spot in the Heineken Green Zone. Be ready to take the day off and bring earplugs for the little ones, because doors open at 12:00pm (for the 1:30pm show) and the show is for all ages.

The headliners of this show are no strangers to festivals. The Maine were regulars on the Vans Warped Tour for several years, and went on to self-produce two festivals of their own in 2017 and 2019, both dubbed 8213 Fest. Sad Summer Festival will mark the group’s first headlining North American tour since the release of their emotional seventh LP, titled You Are OK.

Mayday Parade are fellow Warped Tour vets, and also performed as part of the Slam Dunk Festival in 2016. Before the release of their latest album, 2018’s Sunnyland, they’ve graced our ears with five prior full-length releases along with several contributions on compilation projects such as Punk Goes Pop.

Performing alongside The Maine and Mayday Parade are The Wonder Years and State Champs, two groups with solid followings who create just as much emo-alt-punk-rock goodness. Although the festival is called “Sad Summer,” don’t you worry – there will be plenty of positive vibes to go around.

Melissa Aiello: Hi there, nice to meet you! My name is Melissa and I am a 24-year-old passionate lover of all things related to music and live entertainment. I've been singing since the second grade, and playing guitar for the past five years. I grew up in a fairly musical household, with my grandfather breaking out his accordion and starting sing-a-longs at every family gathering. It was here that I began falling in love with music and its power to change moods, emotions, and lives. My taste in music goes far and wide - you name it, I'll (probably) listen to it. My hundreds of Spotify playlists include everything from Biggie to ABBA to the Jonas Brothers (thank GOD they're back together) to Dolly Parton and everything in-between. I aim for my little corner of the internet to spread love and positivity for all this beautiful music, and give you the opportunity to see or hear artists you may otherwise have not heard of.
