mxdwn PREMIERE: HOTT MT Explore a Rugged Coastline in New Video for Haunting Instrumental Track “Dragon on the Rocks”

HOTT MT, the musical project of Spooky (Nick Logie) and Ashi (Ashleigh Allard), have a new song out from their recently-released new album Earth on Heaven called “Dragon on the Rocks.” We’re excited to be premiering this moody piece of instrumental music along with its intimate video.

While HOTT MT (Hour of the Time Majesty 12) was formed by Spooky and Ashi, it at one point had expanded to as many as six members. With this release, the group is pared back to its original duo. The new album, the third full-length from the band, was released on February 26, 2019.

“We recorded Earth on Heaven at a place called the Ocean House,” said Ashi. “This was the BC home of Spooky’s grandparents, which had been recently vacated and put on the market. Spooky grew up visiting this house with his family several times a year. EOH was recorded on our final visit, fulfilling a dream Spooky has kept since he was a kid.”

The video perfectly matches the hypnotic mood of the electronic-based instrumental track. Shots of the musicians exploring the rugged British Columbia coastline and working on music give a close look into the making of the album.

“I candidly took video of our recording and writing process, and while editing the footage realized that the bulk of it, although meaningful and sentimental to me, might come across as boring to almost anyone else,” she said. “Spooky and I have been together a long time and have a language of our own and it’s mostly non-verbal. So footage of us in isolation is VERY quiet. Maybe one day I’ll edit some massive 18 hour video of us exchanging looks and making gestures, but for now I think this video gets across the sweet essence of the time we spent there.”
