The American rock supergroup The Damned Things have been grabbing everyone’s attention after they announced the release of their second album, High Crimes, out on April 26th under Nuclear Blast Records. Featuring members from Anthrax, Every Time I Die and Fall Out Boy, the band has released the second single from their forthcoming project entitled “Something Good.”
Right off the bat, “Something Good” starts off with a clap-along, cheerleader chant shouting out “Y-E-L-L / All of my friends are going to Hell.” On the surface level, the song presents itself as an upbeat and poppy-like sound and structure, especially within the chorus. However, if listeners dive deeper in the lyrics, they’ll realize the song is disguising itself to be a free and fun-loving song when in reality, the song has dark overtones.
Vocalist Keith Buckley commented on the song and said it’s “a feel-good song about feeling bad. It’s about hurting people you care about because it is not in your nature to do the right thing even when you want to. A dark moral story with a really sunny feel.”
The band was formed nine years ago when Scott Ian, guitarist, and co-founder of legendary metal band Anthrax, began chilling with Joe Trohman, guitarist and co-founder of the legendary rock band Fall Out Boy. The two hit it off from the start and began making songs together out of their own accord. Through the assistance of Andy Hurley, drummer of Fall Out Boy, and vocals from Buckley, of the band Every Time I Die, the supergroup was formed. The band released their debut album, Ironiclast, back in 2010 and since then picked up Dan Andriano, from Alkaline Trio, on bass.
