This May, Lee Ranaldo, Jim Jarmusch, Marc Urselli and Balázs Pándi will be releasing a collaborative album that will feature three lengthy tracks and two more included as CD-only bonuses. The self-titled album will be released on May 24 via Trost Records as both a single-CD and a single-LP.
The coming together of the four talents was sparked by Uselli, who wanted to experiment “[bringing] people together who had never met before” and to “let that meeting of minds create beautiful soundscapes”.
Urselli is a New York based sound engineer and 3-time Grammy Award winning music producer who has worked with artists such as Lou Reed, Les Paul, and Faith No More’s Mike Patton. Included in the collaboration are film director and musician Jarmusch, who recently released An Attempt to Draw Aside the Veil, drummer Pándi, as well as Sonic Youth co-founder and guitarist, Ranaldo.
Lee Ranaldo/Jim Jarmusch/Marc Urselli/Balázs Pándi was recorded during one night in Urselli’s studio in downtown New York. Listeners will get to hear and experience the completely unfiltered results of their live ession, which includes improvised rhythms and zero overdubs or editing. In particular, one of the songs “Groa”, spans a crazy 19 and a half minutes. Pre-orders for the CD or LP version of this collaboration can be placed here or here.
