It has recently been confirmed in a statement on rapper Madlib’s website Rappcats that late rapper Mac Miller and and Madlib worked on an EP called Maclib before Mac Miller’s passing. So far, there are no plans to release the EP according to Pitchfork.
Madlib and Miller began sending beats and songs back and forth to one another after Miller recorded a verse on Madlib’s album “Piñata”. Afterwards the duo began working on Maclib before Miller’s death in September 2018. Miller and Madlib, performed some songs off the EP although it was never released.
Mac Miller got his start in music at the young age of fifteen when he signed onto Rostrum Records. While there he created the mixtapes K.I.D.S. and Best Day Ever. Blue Slide Park was Miller’s first studio album released in 2011. The album made the rapper prominent amongst the national hip hop scene and it remains an iconic piece to this day. His final album Swimming was released in August of 2018. A month after this, Miller died of an overdose on September 7th of 2018.
Madlib is a professional DJ and rapper who was integral to the hip hop scene in the 2000s. In the 1990s Madlib created a group called Lootpack and their first EP “III Psyche Move” came out in 1993. The EP quickly gained popularity and eventually, the group was signed to Stones Throw Records in 1998. Later on, Madlib split from Lootpack and put out his first solo album The Unseen. The album was critically acclaimed and quickly gained Madlib popularity just in time for the 2000s rap scene. Most recently, Madlib collaborated with Anderson Paak on his newest album.
Though we can only speculate what the EP could be like, one thing’s for sure; the uniqueness of Mac Miller and the experience of Madlib combined has to be nothing short of impressive and memorable.
