Singer Grimes has announced her next upcoming album, Miss_Anthrop0cene, via Instagram. After a relatively quiet few years in terms of music from Grimes, fans were happily surprised to find the singer’s post on social media yesterday. The post details the meaning behind the name of the album, as well as confirming that Grimes’ recent 2018 single, “We Appreciate Power,” will be featured on the record. In her explanation of the record, Grimes details how climate change is a very important issue to her and she wanted to do something to make the issue more accessible. In her opinion, climate change is only ever talked about in a foreboding sense, and Grimes wants to use this album to represent the issue in a more personified and easily identifiable way. The album will be about a goddess of climate change created by Grimes, creating a character to portray the issue in a human form. Grimes has been known for her strong artistic vision in her work, and her newest album will be no exception.

Miss_Anthrop0cene will be Grimes’ first full length album since Art Angels in 2015. The album brought the electronic pop singer farther into the spotlight, after she gained initial fame with the album Visions in 2012. The song “Flesh Without Blood” from Art Angels is Grimes’ highest charting hit yet, topping out at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100. More recently, Grimes’ song “We Appreciate Power” gave fans insight into what the new album will look like. The track is an intense electronic-influenced rock song that features a wide range of Grimes’ musical talents. If the single is any indication of the rest of the album, Grimes has a great album coming up soon. The Instagram post where Grimes announced Miss_Anthrop0cene can be found below.
