The Red Hot Chili Peppers, the incredible rock band started creating music in 1983 and has not stopped making legendary steps in the music world since. The band includes legendary artists; Anthony Kiedis (vocalist), Chad Smith (drummer), Michael Peter Balzary (bassist), and Josh Klinghoffer (guitarist). In their thirty-six years, they’ve won six Grammys and have been on seventeen tours. The band’s two albums, Californication and Blood Sugar Sex were ranked in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of all Time. Their music has made rock milestones and continues to do so today. The band recently performed at the Malibu Love Sesh and they still have upcoming performances in unbelievable places like Chiba, Japan.
On March 15th, the Red Hot Chili Peppers made music history in Egypt. The quintessential rock band had a show at the Egyptian pyramids in Giza where they blew the audience away. The stage was in a pyramidal shape framing the actual pyramids behind the band. During the show, Josh Klinghoffer, the band’s guitarist covered the Radiohead Song, “Pyramid Song”. He covered the song on the piano while performing in front of an actual pyramid. The band’s performance in Giza was both iconic and ironic, making steps towards a new performance style. This piece uses the location to their advantage and brings attention to the ancient pieces of art that Egypt has to offer.
The concert in Giza was live streamed and at 33:09 the band starts their shocking performance. The concert highlights their latest album The Gateway. At the two hour mark, Josh Klinghoffer makes his big piano solo. The piece is beautiful and enchanting to listen to. His piano cover truly takes your breath away. At the end of the amazing “Pyramid Song” cover, Klinghoffer states “Had to do it” to the audience. In doing so, The Red Hot Chili Peppers produced yet another legendary work of art.
