Joy Williams, the four-time Grammy winner recently released her new song “When Does A Heart Move On” which will be a part of her new album Front Porch. Front Porch is set to be released May 3rd via Sensibility/Thirty Tigers. Her new album will include twelve beautiful tracks including her new single, “When Does A Heart Move On”. Williams wrote her new album while experiencing a new chapter in her life and is reflective of her life during her second pregnancy. Joy shares what this album has meant to her, “So much of this is about coming home. Whether to a physical place or to yourself. The lines on my face, I can see them more clearly now. But a lot of them are laugh lines. This record feels like breathing more deeply into who I am. Come what may”.
The new song explores relationships and the difficulty of that comes with them ending. The beautiful melody brings to light a heavy subject. The guitar plays slowly in the background as Joy Williams repeatedly asks the question “When does a heart move on”. The song is soft and gentle but makes you feel a sense of sadness as well. It confronts the human sadness that the end of relationships bring, “I’m tired, so tired of holding it together, maybe it’s meant to break”. She confronts that it’s hard to just move on from something that you love and only in time will the heart heal. The song is sad yet it has a sense of hopefulness in the melody. Her vocals are calming and full of emotion. The new single is enchanting and is a great start to her new album.
The American singer released her first album in 2001 and has been creating incredible music from that moment on. Since then she has released four EPs and her music has been featured on national shows like “Grey’s Anatomy”. The artist recently released a music video for her single “Front Porch” where she explores the hardships that many interracial couples have to face. Joy’s highly anticipated album Front Porch will display insight into her life and who she is as an artist.
