Marissa Nadler and Stephen Brodsky of Mutoid Man and Cave In have announced a new collaborative album titled Droneflower. Droneflower is set for release on April 26 via Sacred Bones Records and will feature 10 tracks of cinematic music. Along with the album announcement, they have released it’s lead single, “For The Sun” that is haunting but beautiful at the same time. It provides the perfect blend of Brodsky’s metal and Nadler’s dark folk music styles. Check out the new track below. The collaborative project has been years in the making, after meeting briefly in 2014. Both Nadler and Brodsky had the idea of writing songs outside of their projects and eventually writing together.
The first song that they had done together was “Dead West,” also featured on the upcoming project. According to a press release, most of the work for the song was done separately. it was based around a guitar piece that Brodsky had done and while Nadler added lyrics and melodies to the song remotely. The album also features two cover songs, including Guns n’ Roses ballad “Estranged” and Morphine’s “In Spite of Me.” Morphine saxophonist Dana Colley made a guest appearance on the cover track, who, in actuality, did not appear on the original recording of the song.
They will also be playing a few shows in Brooklyn, Providence, and Allston. See the tour dates below.
