Allegaeon Release Brutal-Yet-Melodic Death Metal Song “Extremophiles (B)”

Death metal band Allegaeon released their newest song “Extremophiles (B)” from their recent album Apoptosis. Their album will be released on April 19th according to THEPRP.

Apoptosis is the band’s fifth studio album and was released through Metal Blade Records. The album is heavily science influenced and this theme is perfectly displayed in “Extremophiles (B).”

This track is incredibly technical and impressively intricate. The drummer, Brandon Park, literally does not miss a beat in this fast paced track. At certain points he hits every eighth and sixteenth note, making the song seem even more fast paced than it really is. To put it bluntly, the drumming is absolutely insane. The lead guitarist Greg Burgess begins with a complicated and repetitive line and is later joined in by the drummer. Michael Stancel on rhythm guitar plays around with the beat that the drummer establishes to set up a rich rhythm and beat right off the bat. Towards the end of the song, Burgess shreds with a fast paced and technically dynamic guitar solo. Last but not least, the group’s newest bassist Brandon Michael lays down a perfect bass line that grounds the song throughout. All these components put together create an incredibly exciting track that will blow your mind. The only difficulty will be keeping up with the quick tempo that Burgess establishes.

Most notable is the coherence between the members of the band. Each instrument mimics the patterns and creations of other instruments, highlighting the innovative lines that each musician performs. The song is one flowing entity that plays off of itself. Everyone remains perfectly locked in with one another in a way that most bands envy. In this respect, this song is definitely pushing the band’s creative boundaries.

The group formed in 2008 and was originally based in Colorado. After releasing their third album Elements of the Infinite, the band gained prominence and popularity. Elements of the Infinite, just as Apoptosis does, follows mainly scientific themes and displays a similar musicality to the songs released from Apoptosis. Popular songs off Elements of the Infinite include “1.618”, “Threshold of Perception”, and “Dyson Sphere” all of which have quite comical and quirky music videos. Later, the band produced their fourth studio album Proponent for Sentience. Directly afterwards Allegaeon released two recorded covers which included Rush’s “Animate”  and “Subdivision.” The cover for Rush’s “Animate” quickly became one of their most prolific tracks.

Most Recently Allegaeon played the Slaughter Tour  in 2018 with Between the Buried and Me. This tour came directly after Allegaeon performed with Rings of Saturn  for the Dank Memes Tour in the spring of 2018. So far, the band has been busy with performances and making new music for death metal fans.

Allegaeon outdid itself with “Extremophiles (B).” The song does not disappoint and is likely to turn opponents of death metal into super fans. It’ll be interesting to see what else the band has cooked up once they release the rest of Apoptosis on April 19th.
