The South by Southwest Conference & Festivals (SXSW) officially began this weekend, with the festival’s music segment set to commence this upcoming week. Despite this, attendees in Austin, Texas have already witnessed a stellar performance. Indie singer-songwriter Joshua Tillman, also known as Father John Misty, surprised fans as the secret headliner at Netflix’s The Highwaymen House on March 9.
The Highwaymen House is a 1930s speakeasy-styled pop-up that is currently ongoing (March 8-12) at Banger’s Basement. The pop-up is held in promotion of an upcoming Netflix production about the story of two Texas rangers who brought down Bonnie and Clyde. Guests will be transported back to the 1930s, with various immersive programs and interactive experiences on site.
Father John Misty was announced as the night’s secret headliner at approximately 11PM, after Austin-based indie singer Molly Burch and folk singer Jessica Pratt performed sets for guests. Check out Father John Misty’s surprise performance below.
Last year, Tillman released a powerful and emotional album, God’s Favorite Customer, that is reflective of his latest alter ego. Recently, Father John Misty, along with Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit announced their co-headlining tour for the 2019 Summer that is slated for a June 6 opening in San Diego, California.
