mxdwn PREMIERE: Georgi Kay Leads a Death Cult in Suspenseful New Video for “American Psycho”

Los Angeles-based singer Georgi Kay originally hails from Perth and creates alternative pop with a dark edge. Today we’re premiering her new video for “American Psycho,” which marries a macabre visual story with pulsating beats and distant synth lines. Lyrically, the song describes a take-no-prisoners type of woman that has everyone eating from the palm of her hand, even though she’s a “cold killer queen.”

The video, which was directed by Tiffany Leah Chung, features Kay dressed in a righteously creepy burlap sack, casually swaggering through an empty warehouse. Then she starts to ruthlessly punch a captive woman, played by Francesca Chiloiro, while her robed, masked minions look on. A man who could presumably be her boyfriend, is forced to become one of the cult members, while the captive woman can only look on with her fate very much in question. The production value is stellar and it looks as if it’s pulled from the latest big-budget psychological horror flick.

Kay was nominated for a Grammy for her vocal contributions to the dance track “In My Mind (Axwell Mix)” with Ivan Gough and Feenixpawl. She was nominated for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. She recently released a new collection of songs called WIGTD, which you can find on her website.
