Sebadoh Announce First New Album in Six Years Act Surprised for May 2019 Release

Sebadoh, the side-project of once-former Dinosaur Jr. bassist Lou Barlow that grew to be equally popular, have announced a new album Act Surprised. The album is their first album since 2013’s Defend Yourself, which at the time of release was their first new album in 14 years. Joining Barlow on the record is longtime member Jason Loewenstein and Bob D’Amico.

In addition to the new album, the band has shared the first single, a track called “celebrate the void.” It’s a bit of a slow-burn, highlighted by Barlow’s distinct vocals. Unlike the band’s early lo-fi recordings, this song has crisp production and professionally mixed. You can listen to the song below. The band has also shared a video for the song, which features the members of the band performing the song with clips of random objects.

According to a press release, Barlow felt the need to connect with his bandmates in Sebadoh following a move back to his home state of Massachusetts. “Of all the records we have made in our long career,” said Loewenstein, “This is definitely the most recent.”
