In 1979, Black Dots was the first studio recordings released by legendary punk band Bad Brains. Recorded at Inner Ear Studios, the collection features earlier tracks and demos by the D.C. group. This week, it was announced that Black Dotswould be enjoying a vinyl reissue for the first time in over 20 years. The reissue will be pressed on white vinyl, with only 1500 limited units being made available. The reissue is slated for March 29, 2019 and can be pre-ordered here.
Interestingly, Black Dots originated after fellow D.C. punk-psych band The Slickee Boys had heard recordings of Bad Brains and pushed for them to link up with Don Zientara, the owner of Inner Ear Studios. Zientara at that time was operating out of his house, which was where the album was born. It features most of the band’s earlier iconic hits, such as “Pay to Cum,” “Banned in D.C.,” “Attitude,” “How Low Can a Punk Get,” and others.
Bad Brains consists of H.R., Dr. Know, Darryl Jenifer, and Earl Hudson. They are recognized among the list of hardcore punk pioneers and are known to push the envelope with their incorporations of funk, hip hop, and soul. The band is also devoted to the Rastafarian movement.
Into the Future was the last studio album released by the band in 2012. Last year, Bad Brains announced that they have a new project in the works that fans should expect soon.
