Electronic music pioneer Amon Tobin will release his new album Fear in a Handful of Dust on April 26. This will be his first album in eight years since ‘ISAM’. According to a press release, the first single off the album, “On a Hilltop Sat the Moon,” is described as “a haze of delicately rendered melodies that move like creases in time, the song takes Tobin’s expertise in advanced sound design into a decidedly organic and handmade direction, with staggeringly evocative results.”
Amon Adonai Santos de Araújo Tobin also known as Amon Tobin, is a Brazilian musician, composer and producer of electronic music and noted for his unusual methodology in sound design and music production. He has released seven major studio albums under the London-based Ninja Tune record label.
In 2007 he released Foley Room, an album based entirely on the manipulation of field recordings. His latest album, 2011’s ISAM, included “female” vocals made from his own processed voice. His music has been used in numerous major motion pictures, commercial tracks and songs for independent films. The last album ISAM utilized advanced synthesis processing and production techniques, traditionally reserved for sound design in film, and paved the way for a radically new kind of audiovisual performance.
The depth and scope of Amon Tobin’s work is a major inspiration to many. From the Kronos Quartet to Diplo, he has achieved respect among artists within and outside electronic music. He established a reputation for musical ingenuity unconfined by genre, and over two decades remains one of the most visionary electronic artists of his generation.
