Supergroup Filthy Friends Announces Sophomore Album Emerald Valley for May 2019 Release

Filthy Friends, the supergroup composed of Sleater-Kinney‘s Corin Tucker, R.E.M‘s Peter Buck, King Crimson‘s Bill Rieflin, The Minus 5‘s Scotty McCaughey, and The Fastback‘s Kurt Bloch, will release their sophomore album on May 3, according to Consequence of Sound. The album is entitled Emerald Valley, and follows up the band’s 2017 album Invitation.

The band has released “Last Chance County,” the lead single off of Emerald Valley. Listen the song below.

“It’s about a teenage girl riding the bus through a depressed Northwest town in the 1980s, a version of myself and the frustration I saw there…” Tucker explained to Rolling Stone on the song’s inspiration. “Riding the bus to work, I saw people struggling to make ends meet and make sense of their lives. It’s disheartening that 30 years later, the struggle for working people might be even greater.”

The album is a tribute of sorts to Tucker’s hometown of Eugene, Oregon. “It’s a beautiful, green, lush valley filled with hippies, yuppies, loggers, farmers, migrant workers all trying to make a life for themselves… We try and paint a picture of that for people,” Tucker said.

Emerald Valley is available for preorder here. Following the album’s release, Filthy Friends will be hitting the road to promote the album. View the tour dates below.
