Damien Jurado Announces New Album In The Shape of a Storm for April 2019 Release and Shares New Song “South”

Singer-songwriter Damien Jurado has announced a new album for 2019. Titled In The Shape of a Storm, it’s his 14th studio album. The record will be released on April 12, 2019 on Mama Bird Recording Co. In addition to the new album, he’s announced a tour and shared a new song called “South.”

While his last few records have seen Jurado expanding upon his at-times sparse alt-folk sound, “South” finds him firmly back in the sonic territory he exhibited on his second album, 1999’s Rehearsals for Departure. On three albums released from 2012 to 2016 he worked with the late producer Richard Swift, who recently passed away at the age of 41. Those albums, Maraqopa, Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son and Visions of Us on the Land were produced by Swift. His last album, 2018’s The Horizon Just Laughed wasn’t produced by Swift. While these songs were written before Swift’s death, “his absence is very much felt on this record,” said Jurado.
