Cage the Elephant Announced New Album Social Cues for April 2019 Release and Shares Wild New Video for “Ready To Let Go”

Late November, alternative-rock band Cage the Elephant had announced their fifth studio album was complete with production, but there was no announcement of an official release date or leading single, until this week. The band will be releasing their full-length record Social Cues on April 19th through RCA Records. Accompanying the announcement of their album release date, the band put out a music video for their leading single “Ready To Let Go.”

Directed by lead singer Matt Schultz, “Ready To Let Go” features imagery that will keep a viewer’s eyes glued to the screen. Viewers are lured in with blood spilling out in every frame, erotic latex bodysuits, and an eerie ceremony with bloodshot eyes staring directly into your core. The song itself is about a trip to Pompeii, where Matt and his wife came to the conclusion that their marriage couldn’t last any longer. He told Rolling Stone, “It’s hard when you love each other,  but it just won’t work. I’m glad to be past it.”

In fact, the majority of the album was written during the deterioration of Schultz’s relationship. Schultz processed the reality of this experience by digging deep into his psyche, creating fictional characters to tell aspects of a personal story far from fairytales. “It can be a vehicle to act out things that are hard to confront,” said Schultz in a press release. “When I’m creating, I try to put myself in a reactive state of improvisational thought. I let images just arise in my mind and wait for it to evoke an emotional response and then when it does, I know I’m on to something.”

Social Cues, produced by John Hill, is the follow up to the bands Grammy-award winning 2015 album Tell Me I’m Pretty. This new album was conceived in many different studios in Nashville, like Battle Tapes Recording, Blackbird Studio and Sound Emporium, with a single LA studio stop at The Village Recording Studio.

In terms of music, play me a smooth jazz tune, an upbeat pop song, or an unheard indie artist and I'm sure I'll become infatuated by the music. I am always here to share someone else's story, to uplift a voice in any community.
