Broken Social Scene released two new songs, “1972” and “Can’t Find My Heart” during a live session on The Strombo Show. The band is set to release their new EP, Let’s Try The After – Vol 1 on February 15 through Arts & Crafts, the label co-founded by Kevin Drew. One of their new songs, “All I want” is a catchy new song with various instruments and rhythmic vocals which harmonize and blend so perfectly.
Broken Social Scene is a Canadian indie rock band formed by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. The band is more of a musical collective with various members (6-19 at a time) who play in various other groups and solo projects. Broken Social Scene combines elements of its members’ respective musical projects, and is occasionally considered baroque pop. It includes grand orchestrations featuring guitars, horns, woodwinds and violins, unusual song structures, and an experimental, and sometimes chaotic production style from David Newfeld.
The new EP features five tracks and was largely produced by Nyles Spencer. The band shared, “The ceremony of dying generations without any guidelines for how to move forward makes these times easy for the mirror wars to continue. We can hide in the beauty of what has been stolen from us because somewhere there is mystery in not knowing. How can the ruined survive without a back up plan? Let’s try the after.”
Broken Social Scene performed at the Music Tastes Good festival in September 2018. They played songs off their 2002 album, You Forgot It In People and songs, “Anthems for a 17-Year Old,” featuring stunning vocal harmony from Emily Haines and Amy Millan. “This record was made in Toronto,” they shared as the audience cheered. “We are your frustrated neighbors,” they continued, expressing solidarity with the Americans who are not too pleased with how this country is being run.
