The heavy metal and rock music festival, known as Austin Terror Fest, has just announced their 2019 lineup for their third annual event. This summer event is expanding its music lineup by introducing new genres into the mix, including noise rock and hip-hop, in efforts to celebrate counterculture movements in music. Previously held at The Lost Well music venue, the event has relocated to well-known downtown Austin venues, Barracuda and Empire Control Room & Garage. The new location will provide more space for attendees on the three-day weekend event, hosted on Friday, June 7 to Sunday, June 9.
Created by local entrepreneurs and music talent bookers Dusty Brooks and Dorian Domi, Austin Terror Fest emerged in the waking months of 2016 to celebrate underground and heavy metal and punk talent all across the globe. Some of the past lineups included artists like Call Of The Void, Young And In The Way, Amigo The Devil, Communion and Acid King. Just last year, the festival garnered its largest audience to date with 2,000 attendees and 30 music acts.
“I really think this is going to be the biggest Austin Terror Fest yet, as we have been able to secure some of the best talent possible when it comes to metal and rock,” said Brooks in a recent press release. “Feedback thus far has been overwhelmingly positive, and we look forward to embracing this enthusiasm and support as we take Austin Terror Fest to new heights in 2019, and far beyond.”
This year’s event will feature a few recognizable talents in their respective music scene, including Goatwhore, Alcest, Pig Destroyer, Church of Misery and Lightning Bolt. The event will host a total of around 30 acts, amongst some of the other bands include Primitive Man, Integrity, Dorthia Cotrell of Windhand, Thou, Black Cobra and Full of Hell.
Grindcore legends Pig Destroyer has made waves in the past year from reassembling after six long hiatus to release their sixth full-length album Head Cage in the fall. The twelve-track album touches on “weaving together harrowing tales of philosophical dualities, touching on mortality and depression, fear and violence, and the darkest complexities of the human condition.” The album itself was received well by music outlets, being ranked at #10 on Decibel Magazine’s top 40 albums of 2018. Surely this positive response from music outlets will reflect as they continue to perform at the upcoming festival.
Thou, the sludge metal band from Louisiana has also been making ambitious moves during the past year, releasing three EPs just before full-length studio album in August. These releases may have served as an apology for having fans wait four years since the release of their last studio album, Heath. The three EPs the band released included The House Primordial, Inconsolable and Rhea Sylvia before releasing Magus as their full-length project on August 31st There’s no denying that this band won’t run out of new material to perform on stage.
Three-day GA passes have already gone on sale for $150 a person on the Facebook event page. Make sure to purchase tickets as soon as possible as this festival is expected to fill up quick!
