Former Deathcore Band Bring Me The Horizon Shares Electronica Song “nihilist blues” featuring Grimes

Just moments away from their album releasing, British metalcore band Bring Me the Horizon released a new song and official lyric video for the track called “nihilist blues.” The new track itself features synth-pop singer Grimes, as she’s one of two featured artists on the new album Amo.

This song is just another example of the band taking another step away from their usual sound and branching off into other genres. The last few songs they released in 2018 for this upcoming project had a more poppy sound, while this new track takes an approach to electronica full on. It’s full of synthesizers and sound effects even having some of the vocals modulated, making it difficult to pinpoint if frontman Oli Sykes or Jordan Fish are singing.

In an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music’s Beats 1, Sykes told the story about how the band got Grimes’ interest to collaborate on a new song. “I’d seen her in an interview that she did a year or two before that, saying like, ‘Oh, I like English bands like Bring Me the Horizon.’ She got my number off manager after hearing it, text me and she went, ‘I am doing this song. I love it so much.’ And she was like so overwhelmingly positive about the song. She was like, ‘This is one of the greatest songs I’ve ever heard in my life. I’m definitely doing it.’ And she was just so cool about it. She wasn’t at all like the cool kid that she would just like … She’d got all the influences because the song’s quite out there in terms of what it sounds like compared to a Bring Me song.”

The band wrote and recorded their new record all last summer, with Sykes and keyboardist Fish producing the album. In promotion of the new album, the band has acquired a short U.S. tour that started earlier this week on January 23 and will last up until February 16. The band will be making stops in Nashville, New York City, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles.
