Beck is the most recent artist to release a track for the movie Roma, accompanied by singer Leslie Feist. The upcoming album Music Inspired By The Film Roma is a collection of songs by a variety of artists surrounding the film Roma and is due out on February 8th. This newest single is the second track to be released from the album, following Billie Eilish’s “WHEN I WAS OLDER” earlier this month. The song, titled “Tarantula” is a remake of the 1982 song of the same name by Colourbox. The track features production from Beck, along with vocal and instrumental performances from the industry giant. One of the singers performing accompanying Beck on vocals for this track is singer Leslie Feist, also known just by Feist. Feist is well-known for her breakout hit “1234,” which peaked at number 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in 2007.
This track is the first music released by Beck in 2019 and was worked on by the performer alongside his father, David Campbell. The two worked together to create the track’s orchestral arrangement, which is the largest difference between this version of “Tarantula” and the original Colourbox song. The Colourbox version of “Tarantula” is a quirky and entertaining track, while Beck’s version of the song strips it back to its bare bones and recreates much of the song with a much more grandiose tone. The new version of the song is a much more haunting and intoxicating track, which uses the power of a full 24-piece ensemble to create its mysticism.
Beck is one of the largest names in music, and has had a career lasting over 25 years at this point. Since the release of his album Mellow Gold in 1994 and the unprecedented success of the song “Loser” from that album, Beck has been a household name and has released around a dozen full length studio albums. The performers most recent album, Colors, was released in 2017 and supported by the hit song “Dreams.” Regarded as one of the most innovative performers to break through in the 1990s, Beck has constantly adapted his sound and musical style through time and this newest track is a fantastic example of that trend. “Tarantula” shows how Beck has shifted his style significantly from the 1990s to now, making much more well polished and unique tracks than ever before.
