Russian Circles Posts Studio Update and Reveals New Album Is In The Works

Russian Circles hit the studio to work on their seventh studio album with Converge‘s Kurt Ballou taking on production duties. The album is slated to be released later in the year through Sargent House.

Russian Circles was formed in late 2004 by guitarist Mike Sullivan and bassist Colin DeKuiper. They quickly recruited drummer Dave Turncrantz, formerly of St. Louis band Riddle of Steel. In July 2018, the band posted an announcement via Twitter that they began writing their seventh full-length album. They posted the image of studio and musical equipment with the simple caption, “#7 the writing begins.”

The news prompted fans to rejoice with tim_pageler writing, “There is no other band that has ever enchanted and fascinated me as RC. (Except Guns N’ Roses in the early 1990s perhaps ;-)) I have countless records across many genres from the rock sector. But you are always an integral part of my daily music selection!”

In 2011, Russian Circles signed to Sargent House and released their fourth studio album Empros on October 25, 2011. In May, 2013 the group began recording their fifth studio album, produced by Brandon Curtis. Memorial was released at the end of October 2013 and featured a guest-vocal by Chelsea Wolfe. They released their sixth studio album Guidance on August 5, 2016 through Sargent House.

The band is touring the US in February 2019 along with Gouge Away. Russian Circles’ last studio album, 2016’s Guidance, was a powerful 7 track performance which packed an insane amount of diversity into 7 songs. Tracks such as “Overboard” and “Calla” have dark guitar and bass performances which create an ominous tone. Gouge Away is an intense rock band with Christina Michelle on vocals. The band’s 2018 album Burnt Sugar includes songs “Ghost” and “Hey Mercy.”

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
