Melvins Kick Off Chris Cornell Tribute with Cover of “Spoonman”

Tonight’s I Am The Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell is in full swing at The Forum in Inglewood, CA and kicking things off was a recent addition to the show, the Melvins. According to Ultimate Classic Rock, the band started with a short set that included their own songs “The Kicking Machine” and “Let It All Be.”

Then, the band offered up their take on the Superunknown single “Spoonman,” adding a healthy layer of their sludge to the relatively sonically-upbeat Soundgarden song. Of course, they took the liberty of smashing it down with a two minute extended solo and breakdown sequence to close it out, in perfect Melvins fashion. Check out the end of the song below:
