If fairly-out-there vocalist Mike Patton singing “The Star Spangled Banner” at something as mainstream and all-American as an NFL playoff game sounds strange, think again. Those that know Mike Patton well know he’s got one of the most impressive vocal ranges in rock ‘n roll, making him very well-equipped to nail the infamously-difficult-to-sing as our nation’s anthem.
This weekend the Los Angeles Rams are facing off against the Dallas Cowboys in Los Angeles at The Coliseum, and Patton will be there to belt out “The Star Spangled Banner.” The game will be aired on Saturday, January 12 at 5:15 p.m. PT / 8:15 p.m. ET on Fox. Patton will perform just before kickoff.
In other Patton news, he’s announced that he’ll be joining an all-star lineup for the upcoming Chris Cornell tribute concert I Am The Highway, which will be held on Tuesday, January 15 at The Forum in Los Angeles. He’ll perform with members of Metallica, Foo Fighters, Ryan Adams, Temple of the Dog and more.
UPDATE (1/12): Mike Patton was forced to cancel his national anthem performance before today’s Rams and Cowboys game. He woke up under the weather and had to cancel, according to Blabbermouth.
