SOAK announces new album Grim Town, out on April 26 via Rough Trade Records. The album features the new single “Knock Me Off My Feet,” which is accompanied by a music video.
Grim Town will be SOAK-aka 22 year old Birdie Monds-Watson’s-second album, following her 2015 album Before We Forget How to Dream.
“The unique but universal world of Grim Town is introduced with “Knock Me Off My Feet” — a love letter to the lawlessness and freedoms of small-town culture, as well as its more claustrophobic, cut-you-down-to-size qualities,” according to a press release. “It’s also about the idea that ‘you can be the best person to yourself, and the worst person to yourself,’ says Bridie, a theme explored intensely across the ambitious, eclectic and brilliantly brave album.”
The main theme of Grim Town, explains Birdie, is “a dystopia that I’ve created in my brain: me on the inside, processed into a pretend location. The way I could wrap my head around a lot of what I was going through was to make it feel like something quite physical and real. Once I had the idea of the album being an actual location, exploring the dynamics of this town and what it would look or sound like felt like the right way to give my mental state a personality.”
SOAK will be performing a run of intimate U.S. shows later this month, debuting new songs accompanied by a full band. Buy tickets here.
