Singer and producer St. Vincent has been announced to be producing new album for indie band Sleater-Kinney. Sleater-Kinney is an all girl indie rock group that began in the 1990s. Their albums Call The Doctor and Dig Me Out established the band as one of the more interesting and unique groups of the mid-90s and they continued to impress fans until their hiatus in 2005. In 2015, ten years later, the group came back together and released the album No Cities to Love. Since then, Sleater-Kinney has been working on new material and have gotten St. Vincent to help them with their upcoming project.
Sleater-Kinney had one of the most dynamic sounds of the 1990s, establishing themselves as one of the premiere alternative rock groups of the time. One of the strongest messages of their music is feminism and the female voice, which set them apart from many male-dominated groups. The trio is made up of Corin Tucker, Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss. The woman have released many full length albums over the past 25 years, defining much of what would become modern alternative and indie music trends. The band’s comeback album, No Cities to Love, dropped in 2015 after much anticipation from fans. The album brought the group back together after they took time off to work on solo projects and proved that the girls could still create classic music. Two of the largest songs from the project are “A New Wave” and “Surface Envy.” “Surface Envy” features some of the distorted and powerful instrumentals and production that brought the group fame years ago, bringing fans back to what drew them to Sleater-Kinney before their hiatus.
St. Vincent, whose real name is Annie Erin Clark, is a singer who focuses on electronic and pop tracks. Known for her unique electronic and futuristic production style, the performer first entered into the music scene with her 2007 album Marry Me. Since then, St. Vincent has won over many fans and proved herself as extremely talented in all realms of the music making process. Her most recent album, MASSEDUCTION, was released to much praise in 2017. That project contained the powerful tracks “Los Ageless” and the title track “Masseduction.” “Los Ageless” is an incredibly pleasing electropop track that contains some of St. Vincent’s most infectious production. The song was also featured in the Netflix show Bojack Horseman. “Masseduction” is another one of the more iconic cuts from the album, led by St. Vincent’s catchy vocals and energetic electronic production.
MASSEDUCTION was followed by a 2018 remix of the album that featured piano versions of the songs from the project. This version of the album was titled MassEducation. Now St. Vincent is putting her talents to work by helping create Sleater-Kinney’s next album. While there is no release date yet for the project, it is currently slated to come out sometime in 2019.
