High On Fire Forced to Cancel 2019 Electric Messiah Tour Dates Due to Matt Pike’s Medical Emergency Related to Diabetes

The Oakland band High on Fire have just announced the cancellation of their “Electric Messiah” tour due to medical problems concerning frontman Matt Pike. Back in November 2018, Pike had to undergo a partial amputation of one of his toes due to his ongoing battle with diabetes. This time around, Pike is at risk of losing his big toe and/or a bigger portion of his foot.

Pike issued a statement concerning the matter, writing “I feel as though I’m explaining lightning striking twice.” He continues, “the timing and repeating nature of this is my nightmare and almost impossible. Nevertheless, to save yet another toe, my big one, I have been grounded by circumstances out of my control. I will have more of a medical report to come but right now I’m at great risk of losing it, and/or a bigger portion of my foot due to Diabetes.”

This is the second time the band was forced to cancel their participation in tour due to Pike’s medical concerns, as the metal band was booked to co-headline a tour with Municipal Waste back in the fall. Both of these tours were set to be in promotion of the release of their eighth studio album Electric Messiah, which was released in October 2018.

The tour was scheduled to kick off on Thursday, with a total of 18 North American shows alongside bands like Toke and Year of the Cobra. However, fans are now able to refund their tickets through their point of purchase.
