In a conversation with Sirius XM’s “Debatable,” Robert Smith revealed that The Cure is almost finished with their new album, according to Slicing Up Eyeballs. This will be the band’s first album in over a decade.
“Primarily because of the Meltdown thing, and seeing all these new bands, I listened to many bands and met so many of them, that it’s kind of inspired me to do something new,” Smith said. “So, yes, we’re going in in about six weeks time to finish off what will be our first album for more more than a decade. So it’s very exciting times for us all around.”
In a separate interview with Cleveland’s WKYC TV, keyboardist Roger O’Donnell spoke about the album as well, and said that the band would be back in the studio in February. “We listened to all of the demos, and Robert, I’m pretty sure, right now is busy writing lyrics. So we’re all very excited. It’s been a long time since The Cure’s been in the studio,” he said.
The Cure will be touring for much of the upcoming year, slated to headline 19 European festivals during the summer, in addition to shows in South Africa in March. O’Donnell also referred to a “world tour” in his interview, hinting that the band could be touring North America in the fall.
