Cult of Luna Tease New Recording Sessions with In-Studio Photos

Cult of Luna appear to be back in the studio to record new music, according to several Instagram posts made on Christmas Eve. The band’s most recent release Mariner, collaboration with vocalist Julie Christmas, was massively successful and one of 2016’s best albums.

From the photos, it doesn’t appear that the Swedish post-metal band is working with Christmas on this release. The shots, which showcase the band members deep in thought, appear as the only posts on the band’s Instagram page. It was previously reported by Metal Injection that the band had begun writing the music for their next LP.

In other band news, they’ll be joining Slayer, Tool, Kiss, ZZ Top, King Diamond and more at France’s Hellfest 2019. The band played select dates with Julie Christmas in support of Mariner. Those concerts were documented on the band’s live release of the album, which was released in April of 2018.

Cult of Luna has had a revolving door of a lineup, going through a dozen or so members since they burst onto the experimental metal scene in 2001 with their self-titled debut LP. Johannes Persson and Magnus Líndberg serve as the longest-tenured members, having been with the band since its inception in 1998. The band’s last non-collaborative LP was Eternal Music and was released in 2014.
