Greg Dulli, lead singer of the rock band The Afghan Whigs, has released cover of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” just in time for Christmas. Alongside his rendition of the holiday classic, Dulli released a music video for the song. The video takes a somber look at poverty during a time of the year when consumerism reigns supreme. Throughout the Christmas season, many people are blinded by getting the perfect gift for their loved ones and can ignore the giving nature of the holiday. In order to remind listeners and viewers the real reason for the season Dulli decided to show the darker side of Christmas.

The music video for “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” depicts a woman walking through a factory assembly line, the cold snow outside and a rundown house. Each of these scenes is meant to expose viewers to the harsh reality of the Christmas season for many people who are less fortunate. The woman shown in the scenes shows how work on an assembly line is harsh and difficult; this being followed by a cold, snowy, landscape to solidify the message. When the woman arrives at her home she lights a series of moments made of matches on fire, representing society’s lack of care for those in poverty during the season.
